Kidepo National Park is one of the most beautiful national parks in Uganda. Located in the north-east, the park harbours scenery unsurpassed in any other park in East Africa. The park boasts of elephant, zebras, elands, dik-dik, lesser kudu, buffalos, Oribis and Apoka waterbuck. Carnivores present in the park include lions, leopards, Serval cats, spotted hyenas, black-backed jackals and side-striped jackals. The easiest to see being the jackals. The park’s vegetation can best be described as open tree Savannah which varies much in structure and composition.
Mountain forest dominates some of the high places, while areas along the Lorupei River support dense Acacia geradi forest. The park is rich in birdlife given the diversity of species found in the park. These include ostriches and Kori bustard, Verreaux's eagle, Egyptian vulture and Pygmy falcon, the Red billed the yellow-billed and Jackson's hornbill, giant Abyssinia ground hornbill among others.
